Driving circuit plan withdrawn

A CONTROVERSIAL plan to launch a car driving circuit on the former Stretton airfield, near Warrington, has been withdrawn.
Applicant Richard Coe, of Appleton Autodrome Ltd, has put off his application for the development.
The proposal resulted in a storm of protest from nearby residents.
Appleton Parish Council has lodged strong objections to the scheme after worried residents attended their monthly meeting to express concern.
They feared the development would place an increased burden on already overstretched local roads.
The application involved using part of the former airfield as a driving track, in association with a driving school, and a leisure motor sport centre
The site lies largely within Macclesfield borough but Warrington is consulted because it is virtually on the boundary between the two districts.
