WARRINGTON Market is spearheading a high profile campaign to promote local markets throughout the North West on television.
Seven local authority markets have teamed up to back a united “beat the credit crunch by shopping at your local market” message.
The campaign, featuring actress Jeni Howarth Williams (pictured), is running on Granada TV until Wednesday December 10 is particularly aimed at daytime TV viewers.
A recent national “shopping basket” survey commissioned by the Market Traders Federation revealed that on average, produce bought in a market is around 32 per cent cheaper than at supermarkets.
Cllr Bob Barr, elected member for planning, regeneration and housing said, “The survey results demonstrate that shoppers could save a fortune just by shopping at their local market. In pooling our resources with other local operators we can really compete with major supermarket chains.”
Warrington market is also due to advertise on Channel M in Manchester with a series of commercials entitled “The Adventures of Warrington Market” which will air on the channel throughout 2009.
