Opposition overruled

PLANS to retain extensions at a detached house have been approved by Warrington planners – despite strong opposition from neighbours.
The two-storey side and single-storey rear extensions at the house in Highfield Avenue, Great Sankey are inappropriate scale, according to two neighbours.
They claimed there was no precedent for extensions of such size being allowed so close to neighbouring properties.
They claimed the development was overbearing, oppressive and resulted in a loss of light for an adjoining house.
But two other neighbours supported the scheme which, they said, improved the character of the street scene.
The borough’s development control committee was told that planning consent for the extensions was granted last year.
After work had started, a neighbour notified the council that the roof design was not in accord with the original planning consent. As a result, the council asked for a further application to allow the changes to be considered.
But, although officers accepted there had been a material change in the roof design, they considered them appropriate and not harmful to the appearance of the original scheme nor the street scene.
Councillors approved the amended design.
