A 19-year-old girl has been arrested following a fatal crash on the M62 near Warrington this morning.
She is currently being questioned by police on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
One person has been killed in the crash, which involved a car and a heavy lorry between Junctions 11 and 12 at Birchwood.
Both carriageways were at first closed, causing traffic chaos. Later, police said Lane One on the eastbound carriageway had re-opened and traffic was moving slowly.
But the westbound carriageway remained completely closed.
No details of the victim have yet been released and police are currently trying to confirm identification.
Police warned motorists that serious disruption of traffic was continuing and advised that drivers should seek other routes..
