HGV training school to carry on

PLANNERS have given the go-ahead for an HGV training school – despite claims by nearby residents that it is “ruining their lives”
Warrington’s development control committee approved a retrospective application for the school in a former farm yard at Porch House Farm, Runcorn Road, Higher Walton.
The scheme had been opposed by nearby residents and also by Walton Parish Council.
But the committee was told the parish council had withdrawn its opposition because the applicant had amended his proposals to meet their concerns.
Residents claimed diesel engines were left running, reversing sensors were going off continually and drivers shouting and laughing.
In addition, neighbours had to keep windows closed in the summer because of diesel fumes.
Councillors were told the site already had planning consent for HGV storage.
But it was also being used as an HGV training school and the application was being made to formalise the situation
Officers say the vehicles used for the school do not present any further impact on the openness of the Green Belt that those parked on the site, or in adjoining barns, previously. They believed granting permission would give the council more control over the use of the site.
One neighbour said the yard had caused no problems until the HGV school started operating.
He added: “The HGV school is ruining our lives. We are woken up most mornings and the noise lasts all day.
“The yard backs straight onto a residential area.”
The committee was told vehicles were more than 20m from the nearest homes at all times.

  1. Residents claimed diesel engines were left running, reversing sensors were going off continually and drivers shouting and laughing. REALLY ! I trained at this site and we were hardly ever in the yard. The trucks had no reverse bleepers switched on, they were never left running, once started we were out on the road training. We only used the yard for about 10 mins to practices a reverse which is done on tick over. A very professional set up and would recommend to anyone.
