THREE students designed a £180,000 makeover for a Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at a Warrington college.
The fully refurbished centre at Priestley College has now officially opened its doors.
Before leaving for university, the three creative students – Ruth Davidson, Yvonne Dobson and Anthony Lawton – were charged with designing the new space.
They changed the colour scheme and layout and created a “zone system” across both floors with specialist areas including those for group work and informal study. Information Technology systems were increased and new teaching spaces added.
Students can now benefit from over 100 flat panel workstations with full internet access and DVD writing capabilities, and a dozen speciality widescreen machines for media and video editing purposes.
The centre also has interactive facilities which include two 50 inch plasma screens, a range of wireless laptops, together with library facilities including books and magazines.
The three who led the design brief were welcomed back as VIP guests to officially open the building.
Anthony said: “It was a great honour for us to be invited back to open the refurbished LRC and to see how our design had come to life”
College principal Mike Southworth said: “When we decided to redevelop our LRC it was of paramount importance that the vision for it was shaped by our students.”
