HGVs have ruined our lives

ANGRY residents claim an unauthorised training school for lorry drivers is “ruining their lives.”
They claim the noise of heavy lorries starting up before 7am at a former farm yard at High Walton, near Warrington, wakes neighbours and the noise carries on all day.
Diesel engines are left running, reversing sensors are going off continually and drivers shouting and laughing.
In addition, neighbours have to keep windows closed in the summer because of diesel fumes.
A part retrospective planning application to change the use of the yard at Porch House Farm, Runcorn Road, Higher Walton will be considered by the borough’s development control committee tomorrow (Wednesday)
Councillors have been told the site already has planning consent for HGV storage.
But it was also being used as an HGV training school and the application was being made to formalise the situation
Officers say the vehicles used for the school do not present any further impact on the openness of the Green Belt that those parked on the site, or in adjoining barns, previously. They believe granting permission will give the council more control over the use of the site.
Walton Parish Council has expressed concern that the HGV school may cause more disruption than the previous storage use.
One neighbour said the yard had previously caused no problems.
But he added: “The HGV school is ruining our lives. We are woken up most mornings and the noise lasts all day.
“The yard backs straight onto a residential area.”
