Students go into business

BUSINESS students have taken on the challenge of running a functional and profitable business for a year.
The students from Warrington’s Priestley College are taking part in a Young Enterprise initiative.
They are being mentored through the process by Alan Hunter, who spent 30 years working in the high end business world at ICI and Ineos.
The youngsters had to form their own board and elect a managing director – and 16-year-old Greg Daintith landed the position following a ballot.
After discussing a number of ideas for their business, the group decided on “[email protected]” which will offer an event planning service in the community.
Students will raise capital to invest in their project at a car boot sale and recently held a sweet stall sale at the college’s two open evenings. They hope to maximise profits throughout the year to raise as much for charity as possible.
Business tutor Julie McDonald said, “The Young Enterprise programme is of great benefit to our students who right at the beginning of their college lives are being given the opportunity to excel on a practical project.
“Their idea of a event planning service for the local community seems to be a very good one in theory and it will be now up to them to see if they have what it takes to make a success of it.”
Managing director Greg said: “We’re all looking forward to the project and will be working hard to make it a success. We have already contacted a number of local community groups and are hopeful that we will be able to run a range of Christmas events for them.”
Any group wanting to employ their services should contact the team [email protected]
