Cameras roll in a coffee shop

THE cameras rolled in Culcheth’s McDee’s coffee shop when media production student Daniel Briney shot footage for his third and final year production in the village where he grew up.
Daniel, now studying at Staffordshire University in Stoke-on-Trent, has to finish the film, “Coffee” next month.
He recruited aspiring and experienced actors from across the county to take part and some of the filming was carried out at McDee’s.
The film is a quirky comedy following the actions of a girl working alone in a coffee shop. The girl becomes infatuated with a man who comes into the shop for coffee at the same time every day.
She tries to get the attention of the man by leaving short messages on the bottom of his coffee cups – but the man is oblivious of her feelings.
Both are too shy, introverted and lacking in confidence to approach each other.
Daniel, formerly a pupil at Twiss Green Primary and Culcheth High schools, said: “The plot deals with insecurity and self-confidence in a fresh and funny way.”
Fifty people auditioned for the two acting roles.
Daniel is directing the film and doing the camera work but is backed by a crew of seven friends from university.
He said: “The film will be around 10 minutes in length and was inspired by such films as ‘Amelie’ and ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’.
“The production uses a lot of help from the community in Culcheth. Mcdee’s owner, Helen Mcvey and Catherine Dyer, were very helpful with training my actress how to use the equipment and letting me use the shop itself.
“I will be using around 10 extras in the film, all from Culcheth Methodist Church. The minister, Rev Paul Martin also has a small part in the film.”
Daniel hopes to make two more films in the coming year, a documentary and a drama.
Picture shows Daniel filming in McDees with Victoria Connett and Fintan Shevlin.
