Busy road needs a crossing

A BUSY Appleton road, classed as a high risk for accidents, should have a pedestrian crossing according to residents.
Coun Brian Axcell told Appleton Parish Council that he had received a request for a crossing to be provided on the A49, near to Dudlow Green Road.
Other members said attempts had been made in the past, but there had been problems finding a site for a central refuge because of people’s driveways.
But Coun Axcell said that since then a section of the road had been classified as a “red route” – where there is a high incident of accidents.
Coun Judith Walker said she felt children would not walk down to the crossing, cross the road and then walk back.
Coun Axcell said he was concerned about the dangers older people faced when trying to cross the road.
Members agreed to raise their concerns with the borough council.
