A NEW board of Directors has officially taken control of Warrington Town Football Club after more than 18 months hard work transferring the Unibond Division North club from a private members club to a limited company.
A new long term lease has been secured with the club’s landlords, Warrington Borough Council, while the social club has received a major facelift providing top class facilities for pre and post match hospitality and private functions throughout the week.
The new board have set themselves the goal of taking the club into the football league in the future but only after consolidating a sound financial future.
Warrington based manager Paul Moore has already put together a settled team including at least half a dozen Warrington based first team squad players.
“When I arrived at the club many of the players were not even up to the Mid Cheshire League standard,” he said. “We have now concentrated on signing players who have played at a higher standard and we are also keen to get local lads playing for the club.
“I have received great backing from the board and I am confident the club is moving forward in the right direction.”
While still looking for consistency on the pitch in the league the club has enjoyed some cup success, particularly in the money-spinning FA Trophy with a famous away victory at Unibond Premier League outfit Matlock Town – former winners of the famous trophy which culminates with a showpiece final at Wembley.
New sponsors have been brought on board including principal shirt sponsors Johnstone’s Paints, Business Link North West, Government backed job creation agency intraining, Warrington Collegiate and Select Leisure and most recently the Environment Agency.
Nicknamed “The Yellows,” or “The Wire” the club’s most famous son is world cup winner Roger Hunt who still lives in the town and was a goal scoring legend with Liverpool in the 1960’s.
The new board of directors is made up of : Dave Hughes (Footballing Chairman) Gary Skentelbery (Chief Executive/Director) Derek Brownbill (Director of Football) Richy Sutton (Director) Kevin Read (Director) Jeff Greenwood (Director) David Mowat (Director) Ken Lacey (Director) Bill Carr (Director) Martin Simcock (Director).
Town tackle their biggest match of the season tomorrow (Saturday) when they entertain Unibond Premier outfit Nantwich Town in the FA Trophy third qualifying round, kick off 3pm at Cantilever Park.
Fans are urged to turn up early as there is likely to be crowd congestion with Nantwich bringing a large following.
