POLICE investigating the death of a newborn baby at Warrington have ruled out any criminal activity.
A 56-year-old man arrested, but then freed on bail, in connection with the incident, has been told he will not face charges and his bail has been cancelled.
The 35-year-old woman admitted to hospital after being discovered collapsed at Warrington Bus Station, is still recovering after undergoing surgery.
Police this afternoon said a joint paediatric-Home Office post mortem examination carried out at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool had revealed no evidence of criminal activity.
A spokeswoman said: “We will work with our partner agencies to support the people involved.”
Officers originally arrested the man after going to a flat in Orford where the baby’s body was discovered.
He was released on bail after questioning.
It is understood both the man and the woman suffer from learning difficulties and that the woman had been monitored by Social Services for some time.
