Rugby team seek permanent home

A newly formed Rugby League team is urgently looking for a new home in South Warrington.
The newly formed South Warrington based Junior Rugby League team, the Cheshire Cats, is currently planning a busy and exciting 2009 with arrangements for their first year well in hand. But the club is still looking for a permanent home in the area.
Cheshire Cats founder Lionel Hurst LL.B, who has worked alongside Richard Branson at the London Broncos, said: “The amount of support we have received from other sporting clubs and the local Council has been fantastic. We couldn’t have asked for a better welcome to the area. We have had several offers asking us to play at certain venues but what the club needs most is a long term base to make its home and to take a pride in.”
One location under consideration is the unused rugby ground on Bridge Lane in Appleton. The Cats Committee has approached Warrington Rugby Union Football Club which leases the field from the Council. WRUFC have played at Warrington Sports Club since the clubhouse at Bridge Lane was destroyed by fire in 2002.
“We very much hope we may be able to come to some agreement,” added Lionel. “The Bridge Lane field is ideally located and would serve the local community if it were used for its intended purpose.”
Local councillors Judith Walker and Brian Axcell added. “We are very excited about the Cheshire Cats, and support the idea of the Bridge Lane field being used for youth sport. This could open the way for other community ventures which are badly needed in this area.”
It is hoped that there will be some development with the Bridge Lane in the near future.
