RUGBY League legend Mike Gregory (pictured) will be honoured tomorrow (Wednesday) at a charity rugby match.
Students from Warrington Collegiate will go up against Wigan and Leigh College at Wilderspool Stadium.
All proceeds from the match will benefit the Mike Gregory Trust Fund and Warrington Rugby League Service Area.
The Collegiate unveiled Mike Gregory Street at their Winwick Road campus earlier this year in honour of the former Great Britain captain who died in November last year following a four-year battle with motor neurone disease.
Alan Kilshaw, whose role as Cheshire and Warrington Service Area Co-ordinator sees him responsible for developing rugby in Warrington, said: “This is a perfect tribute to a true sporting legend. All of the students involved have been inspired by the work and achievements of Mike Gregory and I’m certain it will be a memorable and touching evening.”
In addition to Mike Gregory Street, Warrington Collegiate students who make outstanding achievements in both sport and education are honoured on a special wall of fame.
This was inspired by a quote from the sporting star, who famously encouraged youngsters to “pursue education and sport with equal vigour”.
The Mike Gregory Cup takes place at Wilderspool Stadium kicks off at 7.30pm tomorrow.
