Friends group for beauty spot

A “FRIENDS” group may be set up to help oversee future maintenance of Stockton Heath’s picturesque Ackers Pit.
Members of the parish council are to consider a “Friends of Ackers Pit” group of volunteers.
Coun Celia Jordan said: “We are getting good feedback from people on the site. A volunteer band could help keep it looking nice.”
Future maintenance of trees on the site will be looked at once current work has been completed, the council decided.
Warrington Anglers Association had agreed to maintain the trees as part of the sale of fishing rights.
But 20 trees need to be removed because they are dead or dying. The work will cost £4,500 and the parish council has agreed to fund this as a one-off contribution.
Clerk Peter Briggs said there would be discussions with the anglers on future work, once the current project was completed.
