How to be a savvy shopper

TRADING Standards chiefs in Warrington have produced a booklet to help people be “savvy shoppers” at Christmas.
The free book has been published to coincide with National Consumer Week (Monday November 17 to Friday November 21) with the theme being “Be a Savvy Shopper this Christmas”.
It is packed with tips and information to help residents have a safe, happy and healthy Christmas.
Articles include the safe use of products and food associated with the festive season, healthy eating, responsible drinking, how to be a wise shopper and what to do if things go wrong.
There is also some useful information on how to avoid overspending – so easy to do in the shopping frenzy that is the usual lead up to Christmas.
There is also advice on HP, credit and other types of finance.
A festive quiz is included with a chance to win £25 shopping vouchers.
The booklets can be obtained from all council libraries, leisure centres, community centres, Contact Warrington, and the council’s main reception areas from November 17.
People who collect their booklet from the mobile library will have the added bonus of being able to discuss any consumer issues or concerns with a member of Trading Standards staff, not only during National Consumer Week but also the following week, to cover the full two week mobile library rota.
Coun Roy Smith, the borough council’s executive member for community services said: “National Consumer Week is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of consumer issues that may arise during the festive season and also the work that Trading Standards carry out all year round to create a fair, safe and healthy trading environment for consumers and honest businesses in Warrington.
“The presence of trading standards staff on the mobile library for the two week period will give residents, some of whom may have difficulty visiting the town centre, the opportunity to access information and advice”.
Consumer advice can be obtained all year round from Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.
