ADVICE on how to recognise the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning will be available at the Eco Hut at Warrington Market next week.
Help will be on hand from 11am – 2pm between Tuesday and Friday (November 18-21).21 November 2008.
Visitors can even enter a competition to win a carbon monoxide detector.
Carbon monoxide poisoning causes 50 accidental deaths and almost 200 serious injuries a year in the UK.
In its early stages, carbon monoxide brings on flu like symptoms but it can lead to brain damage and even death if no action is taken.
Children, pregnant women and people with heart problems are most at risk. Carbon monoxide has no smell, taste or colour. However, signs of a possible problem include sooty marks on the radiants of gas fires or above it, or a yellow rather than a blue flame on a gas appliance.
Annual servicing of gas appliances and the installation of a carbon monoxide detector/alarm can help protect lives.
