Nightclub changes its name

EIGHT months after opening, following a £2 million refit, Warrington’s Synergy nightclub is changing its name.
The name “Synergy” has not worked with Warrington people, according to a spokeswoman for the Bridge Foot club – so it is being re-branded as the Halo Nightclub.
Another refurbishment has been carried out and the club will have three dance floors instead of two and will feature new music.
The re-launch takes places on November 28-29.
Under its former name, Mr Smith’s, the club became famous throughout the North West as the venue for the Pete Waterman TV show “The Hitman and Her”.
Clubbers travelled from all over the North West to visit the former Ritz cinema.
But when the television show ended and the club faced increasing competition from other venues, in Wigan, St Helens and elsewhere in Warrington, the crowds dwindled.
When founder John Smith died the club was not long in closing its doors and for some time the building stood empty.
There were hopes it could be converted into a theatre – but in the end the Smith family sold it to Nexum Leisure, one of the biggest nightclub groups in the country.
It re-opened last March in a blaze of publicity, hailed as Synergy “Superclub”.
But it never recaptured the appeal of Mr Smith’s and now the owners are hoping a re-brand and another refurbishment will bring back the crowds.
