New service to promote independent living

A PIONEERING Warrington charity is launching a new project to help disabled people achieve independent living.
Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP) are working in partnership with Warrington Borough Council and Dial a Ride to provide a free service to enable more people to access the Centre for Independent Living on Beaufort Street, which has been awarded a £1m lottery grant to revamp the former primary school building.
If you are a disabled person or carer and live in Warrington and you want information about equipment and services that can assist your independence you will qualify for the new free service that can pick you up from home, drop you off at the Centre for Independent Living (CIL) and take you home again.
At the CIL you will find: Five showrooms displaying a wide range of daily living aids and be able to speak to experienced staff, while a qualified Occupational Therapist (OT) is available for information and advice.There are also contacts of local equipment suppliers.
The CIL also offers a wide range of other WDP services that promote independence throughout life and work including employment, direct payments, a Discover IT Training Suite, Leisure Recreation & Sport, Welfare Benefits, Sex & Disability Matters, Accessible Caravan, Accessible Narrow-boat, Shopmobility,General Advice and local forums.
It also offers information on Social Services, Wheelchair Service, Carers Centre, Disability Support Groups, Handyman Services, Care-call Services and much more.
