ONE of the main roads leading into Warrington was closed early this morning after a three vehicle pile-up.
Two heavy lorries and a car – a VW Golf – were involved in the crash on the A57 Manchester Road at Woolston.
The road was completely closed to eastbound traffic at a point between the junction with the M6 (Junction 21) and Brook Lane.
Traffic heading for the motorway and to Warrington was held up.
Emergency services, including the fire service were called to the scene. No-one was trapped but the Golf was badly damaged.
A police spokesman said the driver of the Golf ran away and was being sought.
One of the lorry drivers received treatment from paramedics at the scene.
No further details are available yet.
