Residents want more public toilets

A SURVEY of more than 3,600 residents in Warrington has shown there is strong support for a U-turn on the borough’s policy of closing public toilets.
The survey was carried out by local Conservatives.
A total of 81 per cent of those polled voted for opening public toilets which have been closed.
David Mowat, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Warrington South, said: “A recent Help the Aged report stated that more than half of older people are reluctant to go out because of lack of provision in their area.
“There are strong feelings about this in all parts of Warrington, although the highest percentages were in Stockton Heath and Appleton.
“In addition to the survey over the past few months we have collected over 1.000 signatures against the closures, mostly from residents shopping in Stockton Heath”.
People in the Stockton Heath area were furious when public toilets near the Forge shopping centre car park were closed by the borough council – allegedly because of complaints of inappropriate behaviour.
They claimed the council’s real reason for closing public toilets was to save money.
Stockton Heath Parish Council has investigated the possibility of providing a coin operated “super loo” in the village, but found the cost prohibitive.
