Re-open post office says campaigner

A DEMAND for a Warrington post office, closed by Government mandate, to be re-opened has been made by a leading Liberal Democrat.
Jo Crotty, Prospective Parliamentary candidate for Warrington South is calling for the Lovely Lane Post Office to re-open.
The post office was closed earlier this year along with five others across the town.
Dr Crotty said: “Since then it has emerged that nearby Folly Lane Post Office is closing on October 24 due to ill health, leaving no local post office service for thousands of residents.
“After October 24 the only choice for local people who need the services of the post office is to make the trip into the town centre. For many people who do not have their own car, or who have problems getting about, this is going to be a serious problem.”
Dr Crotty, who is also a borough councillor for Bewsey and Whitecross ward, said that since 1999 Labour has closed 20 post offices in Warrington, reducing the number of branches from 49 to 29.
She said: “The town centre office has queues stretching out the door during peak times.
“I have written to Post Watch to call for Lovely Lane Post Office to be re-opened and would urge anyone who feels we need a local post office in our area to do the same.”
