Acclaimed artist to exhibit in town

AN exhibition of the work of a widely acclaimed Russian artist, so far largely unknown in this country, is to open at Lymm.

Without Borders, by Tatyana Tarasove (pictured) – also known as Tata – will run from October 9-18 at the Edgar Art and Framing gallery at The Cross.

The title of the exhibition is taken from the artist’s extensive body of work, which is drawn from a lifetime spent exploring a wide range of cultures and languages, and her own artistic heritage, which spans the extremes of Russian society.
Her paternal grandfather was a top political figure in the Soviet regime, while her maternal grandfather and his father were both peasants who studied art in Moscow and St. Petersburg until poverty and politics frustrated their careers. Tata’s father was also an acclaimed artist.
Tata’s work spans a range of creative styles and techniques, yet all her paintings are ultimately aimed at revealing the spiritual essence of the life bustling around that usually remains unseen.
Among the work to be exhibited at Lymm are views of old towns and landscapes that she paints in mixed technique, and examples of her enticing and sought-after portraits. Paintings inspired by a previous visit to Britain will be also shown.
Born in Moscow, the daughter of painter Yury Tarasov (1929 to 1998), Tata studied at Moscow College of Arts. She is now based in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Her work has been brought to Lymm as a result of a friendship with local residents Bob and Regina Wilkinson, who are keen to share her talent with a wider audience.
Regina said: “Tata is an extremely talented artist who is renowned in her homeland, and her work hangs in the collections of many famous and influential Russians. Having got to know Tata in recent years we felt inspired to share her amazing creative talent with the North West. She gives an insight into Russian and other cultures.”
Graham Edgar said: “It’s very exciting that we have been able to get Tata and her paintings here in Lymm and we hope everyone will take the chance to come to the free display during the 10 days it is on. Tata will be around, so you have a good chance of meeting her too.”
In addition to painting, Tata has designed theatrical productions and books and is a talented poet and songwriter. She has recorded two albums of songs that have received critical acclaim and air time on TV and radio stations in Lithuania and throughout Russia.

  1. Excellent article and a very good exhibition, thank you.

    Two questions:

When will article be published and in which magazines?

Will you be doing a review of the exhibition?

    Thanks, Bob
