CHESHIRE Police’s Director of Business Services Brian Simmons has been awarded the highest accolade, a Police Authority Commendation for his outstanding work over the past two years.
He has been instrumental in leading a multiple police force agreement for the way forensics services, such as DNA testing are provided. The work involved complex negotiations with many organisations.
Authority Chairman Peter Nurse said, “Brian’s leadership resulted in significant savings of £15 million over three years for the fourteen police forces involved and will benefit every force in the country by opening up the forensic market.”
Brian’s hard work has been recognised not only by Police Authority Chairmen and Chief Constables regionally and nationally, but also from the forensics and procurement experts that worked on the project. The savings made will enable the police to use forensic science in more cases resulting in greater levels of crime detection and conviction.
Cheshire Police Authority is an independent body responsible for ensuring Cheshire Constabulary delivers an efficient and effective police service.
It is made up of 17 local people who include nine councillors, three magistrates and five members of the public.
