Terrorism victims speak up for peace

VICTIMS of terrorism from across Europe are attending a major conference at Warrington today.
Voice of the Victims is an event hosted by the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace at the Peace Centre in Great Sankey.
The event is organised in conjunction with the European Network of Victims of Terrorism.
It will feature testimonies of people who have suffered the impact of terrorism.
The first of four events to be held across Europe, it will focus on how victims have been able to transform their lives in a positive way, after their traumatic experiences.
Keynote speaker for the event will be Dame Helen Reeves, chief executive of Victim Support.
Other speakers will include people affected by the London bombings, the Madrid train bombs, Omagh and victims of terrorist attacks across the world.
At the event the Foundation will also officially launch its ‘Survivors for Peace’ programme. This offers people, living in England, who have been affected by conflict and terrorism an opportunity to use their experiences to make a positive contribution to peace in their own lives and communities.
Foundation spokeswoman Jo Dover said: “This will be a chance for victims to challenge the stereotype that being a victim means you are powerless. The speakers will show the many different ways in which they have gone on to change their lives for the better.
“It is an opportunity for victims across Europe to show solidarity with each other and feel less isolated in their experience.
“We are delighted to be launching our Survivors for Peace programme at this event and would invite anyone interested in taking part in our programme to visit our website (www.foundation4peace.org) or contact the team here at the Foundation.”
The conference starts at 11am.
