TWO men were rescued from a smoke-filled house at Warrington after fire broke out in the kitchen while they slept upstairs.
The blaze was shortly before 10pm last night (Friday) and was spotted by a passerby who noticed smoke pouring from the property in Myddleton Lane, Winwick.
Fire crews had to break into the house and found the occupants, a father a son aged 44 and 18, still asleep upstairs.
They led them to safety before tackling the fire, caused by a cooker left on in the kitchen.
There was extensive smoke damage throughout the house but little fire damage.
The two men were not seriously harmed and did not require hospital treatment.
In a separate incident, the expertise and specialist equipment of Warrington firefighters was needed in Chester when a fire broke out involving asbestos.
A crew from Warrington was sent to the city to assist local firefighters.
