University climbs the ladder

THE University of Chester – which has a major campus at Warrington – has soared 13 places in the rankings in one of the country’s leading, independent league tables for UK universities and university colleges.
The Sunday Times University Guide has raised the university’s position to 86th place out of a possible 120.
It praises the University’s “strong reputation” for nursing. It also highlights a high overall student satisfaction rate in the 2008 National Student Survey, published last week.
The University was also rated as “excellent” in a number of other subject areas, including: Allied Health Professions (Dietetics, Health Visiting); Business and Management; English; Hospitality, Leisure, Recreation, Sport and Tourism; Maths, Statistics and Operational Research; Nursing, Midwifery and subjects allied to medicine; and Theology and Religious Studies.
University maintained student accommodation was also rated as being competitively priced at the on-site halls of residences and in nearby properties.
With a history dating back to 1839, the University of Chester has also been singled out for its facilities which are “bang up to date”, highlighting the significant investment of more than £20 million which has been pumped into both the Warrington and Chester Campuses over recent years.
This includes the £12 million revamp of the Warrington Campus, state-of-the-art Westminster Building at Chester – the home of the Faculty of Health and Social Care, the new Students’ Union facilities on both campuses, and the launch of the Kingsway Buildings to house the Faculty of Arts and Media.
Having received Research Degree-Awarding Powers in 2007, the University also continues to enhance and develop its work in this area.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (External Affairs and Corporate Development), Dr Chris Haslam, said: “The overall position for the University of Chester is a very encouraging one, with a rise of 13 places compared with last year. We continue to be committed in our efforts to provide a high quality learning experience for all our students.”
