WOLFIE beware – a new mascot is in town and is throwing down the gauntlet of a penalty shoot out competition!
Ambitious Warrington Town Football Club will unveil their new club Mascot, The Legend at their home game with Lancaster City this Saturday, (September 20th) and hope to arrange a shoot out with Warrington Wolves’ mascot, Wolfie, at the Halliwell Jones Stadium when Liverpool reserves are back in town.
Meanwhile to celebrate the launch of their mascot, the first for a team in the Unibond Division One North, the club is allowing free admission to all home games throughout the current season for children aged under 16 when accompanied by an adult.
Saturday’s game will be a community event, involving business leaders and charity groups from across Warrington and the region.
Despite a mixed bag of results on the field, the club is netting some good results off the field after securing major sponsorship deals with Johnstone’s Paints, who open a new store in the town next weekend, Business Link North West and Newcastle College’s Government job training initiative Intraining.
The club, which with a new board of directors hopes to bring football league to the town in the not too distant future.
The Legend was designed by Boteler High School pupil Micheala Whitaker, aged 15, from Howley, who won a competition to design the new mascot, sponsored by local print company Print-Magic.
The Legend is named in honour of the club’s best known former player, World Cup winner Roger Hunt, who was talent spotted by Liverpool playing at Loushers Lane more than 40 years ago!
Next season the club will be celebrating their diamond jubilee and hope to celebrate it by gaining promotion.
The Legend also has his own Facebook page and is looking for friends!
