New bin service to boost recycling

A SPECIAL town centre roadshow is taking place to help launch a major change to bin collections set to take place in Warrington at the end of the month.
From September 30 the borough council is scrapping the current five week, paper collection service and bringing in an improved, fortnightly one, which will take a wider range of materials.
It will make it easier for residents to recycle more and boost the town’s recycling rate.
By the start date, each resident should have received all the relevant information packs and collection date stickers and most will have received their new bin.
Just to make sure, all this information and more will be available at the launch of the service at a road show, in the town centre on Monday, September 29 when members of the public can pop along and talk to the team about the new service and all their recycling needs.
The new larger blue bins which are being launched can be used for steel, aluminium cans and tins, cardboard boxes and packaging, glass bottles and jars, newspapers, magazines, envelopes, junk mail, plastic bottles including juice, water, milk, shampoo and household cleaners .
This scheme is in addition to the current black and green kerbside collection services.
Coun Alan Litton, Executive Board member for environment services, said: “This improved service is all about making it easier for households to recycle more – all we need now is for people to do their bit.
“We are all faced with the challenge of what to do with our waste and the council is constantly looking into ways we can reduce the amount we all send to landfill – this new service is just one way we can do this.”
All the information about the new service, key dates, what can and can’t go in the bin is included in leaflets to every household and on the council’s website.
