A SUGGESTION that pubs and restaurants should be paid to allow people to use their toilets was put to Stockton Heath Parish Council.
Members and residents have been campaigning for some time to get public toilets in the village – since the toilets in
the Forge car park were closed after reports of “unsavoury activity” in the gents.
A resident presented a newspaper cutting to the parish council about a scheme in Richmond on Thames where businesses were paid to allow people to use their toilets.
Coun Celia Jordan (pictured) said the issue of public toilets in the village was difficult to resolve as the borough council had no funds available. She said pubs had previously refused to let the public use their toilets and the doctors’ surgery had put up a sign saying toilets were only for patients.
Coun Stephen Taylor said the borough council is trying to save money and providing toilets was low on their agenda.
He suggested a “toilet think tank” to look at the issue.
Members agreed to refer the issue to the parish council’s Village Committee.
