Council bids to save pay phones

COUNCIL chiefs have objected to the removal of nine local payphones in Warrington.
But the council is agreeing to the removal of two other payphones proposed for closure by BT.
The recommendation was made following two rounds of consultation with residents, ward councillors, local organisations and parish councils.
Details of each objection can be viewed at www.warrington.gov.uk/payphones or by ringing 01925 442802 to request a hard copy.
The council has given consent to removal of payphones at Weaste Lane, Thelwall and Higher Lane, Lymm.
Objections have been raised to removal of payphones at Falcondale Road, Winwick, Orford Green, Gainsborough Road, Pilgrim Close, Warrington Road, Penketh, Bruche Heath Gardens, Padgate, Mill Lane, Houghton Green, Longbarn Lane, Woolston and Manchester Road, Warrington.
If there are any appeals to the council’s recommendation, where they objected to the closure of the phone box, the Competition Appeal Tribunal will make a decision.
