Teenagers heading for Cambridge

THREE teenagers are heading for Cambridge University after achieving good A Level results at a Warrington college.
Priestley College students Michael Christie, Graham Helliwell and Megan Tyler achieved their long-term ambition in getting a place at the university.
Michael gained three A grades and a B and Graham achieved four straight A’s. Megan also gained four A grades and was named one of the top five national performers in Biology from over 13,000 UK entrants.
All three are looking forward to their new courses. Michael will read English at Sidney-Sussex, Graham will study Computer Science at Churchill where he will be joined by Megan who will be studying Natural Sciences.
Their success strengthens the links between Priestley and Oxbridge – last year five students went to Cambridge.
One of those, former Student Union president Danny Cheung, was recently told that after his first year he was on course to gain a First Class Honours Degree in Architecture.
College principal Mike Southworth said: “In recent times we have seen a real interest from a number of our students in pursuing both Oxford and Cambridge as their institutes of choice.
“We have a very thorough system in place on campus that fully supports those students wishing to apply and with eight departing for Cambridge in just over 12 months, it shows how successful this pathway has been.”
