Are YOU a top recycler?

WARRINGTON Borough Council wants to hear about people who recycle – and encourage others to do the same.
Town Hall chiefs want local residents to front a campaign and champion recycling.
They have already tracked down some of the town’s younger waste watchers in schools, including an environmentally friendly group at St Albans Primary.
The children have set up recycling trays for different kinds of materials, use old materials to create all sorts of things including a bird box made out of unwanted shed wood.
They join in litter picks and some even empty the bin to make sure everything in it that could be recycled, is being recycled.
Now the council wants to hear of individuals, families, sports or social groups, organisations etc who have joined the recycling campaign.
People who have come up with their own, innovative ways of recycling are particularly being sought.
Residents are being asked to send the council pictures of them recycling at home, together with a few details about themselves.
They can be emailed to [email protected] or sent to Waste Watchers, Woolston Depot, Hawthorne Avenue, Woolston, Warrington, WA1 4AL.
Coun Alan Litton, (pictured) the council’s executive member for environment services, said: “We have had a good response so far and we know this is an issue that almost everyone has an opinion on. We need to hear it.
“The issue of what to do with our waste is a challenge that we need to address now, not in 10 years time. Read the information and have your say so that you are contributing to the solution.”

  1. I’ve been recycling whatever there is to recycle for the last 7-8 years. I allocate room in the kitchen for recyclable material – glass, plastic, metal, paper, card.

Garden waste goes in the green bin, kitchen waste in the composter.

Once a month I go Woolston CRC with a car load to go in the various recycle bins.

Obviously the new blue bin soon to hit the streets will make life at home easier. Let’s just hope that everybody will make good proper use of these.
