MORE than 50 new players have signed up for courses at a Warrington tennis centre thanks to the appointment of a development officer for the sport in the town.
Kate Halle, 27, has been coaching tennis in Cheshire for more than 10 years. Earlier this year she was appointed tennis development officer for Warrington and Cheshire.
The post is funded by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and aims to develop the sport by increasing participation, identifying new talent and providing competitive opportunities for juniors.
Kate is based at Birchwood Tennis Centre, but has links with all clubs in Warrington.
Since January she has formed strong school links and delivered a schools’ programme, which resulted in nearly 50 new players joining the Birchwood tennis programme. Nine of these are taking part in a new performance programme starting in September.
The centre has a strong adult section with lots of playing opportunities, a junior programme supported by the LTA and a team of qualified coaches
Anyone interested in getting involved should contact Birchwood Tennis Centre.
