£1,000 – for a poem about Warrington

0

A POEM about Warrington could win £1,000 in a free poetry competition.
Entry is free and the competition is open to all UK residents, young or old.
Would-be poets simply have to send a poem about their own home town or area to “Local Poem” at United Press Ltd, Admail 3735, London EC1B 1JB or visit the website www.unitedpress.co.uk
The best poem will win £1,000 cash and poets can send up to three entries, which must be no more than 20 lines and 160 words each.
A United Press spokesman said: “It can be about something or someone from the poet’s home area. We find that poems written from personal observation and experience are the most heartfelt and expressive, so we’re expecting some great entries.
“The contest is designed to encourage the man or woman in the street to write poetry – to both express themselves and be more creative.
“Last year’s winner was from Stafford and the previous year’s from Rotherham. Maybe this year the £1,000 prize will go to a poet from Warrington.
Close date for entries is December 31.
