Village shop plan causes storm

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington are to visit the site of a proposed new village shop which has caused a storm of protest.
Members of the borough council’s development control committee decided they could not reach a decision on the application without an on-site study of the implications.
They will visit Chaise Meadow, off Calton Road, Lymm before making up their minds.
Lymm Parish Council did not oppose the application by developer Robert Foden. But local residents did -and won the support of ward councillor Sheila Woodyatt.
Nearby residents say the development would be out of character with the area, adding to existing traffic gonestion. They claim there is inadequate parking space and ignores the proximity of the nearby Trans Pennine Trail.
They argue that it would result in increased urbanisation of a semi-rural area.
But planning officers say the shop is expected to be a farm shop and would provide a useful service to new housing development in the area. It would adjoin an existing three-storey building which has retail use on the ground floor with apartments above.
They are recommending the scheme be approved, with conditions to minimise impact on nearby homes.
