A NEW south Warrington Rugby League team is being formed to cater for youngsters who want to learn and become better at the game.
Cheshire Cats are looking for interested youngsters, up to the age of 18 from Lymm, Grappenhall, Thelwall, Daresbury, Stockton Heath, Walton, Appleton and Stretton to join the club.
The Cats have the full backing of Warrington Wolves and head of recruitment at the Super League club, Peter Farrell, said: “This a great idea and one that will receive the full backing of the Wolves. We will provide as much assistance and guidance as is required to create the proper standards and infrastructures both on and off the field.
“We have many supporters who live in the area and we are confident they will become involved with the Cheshire Cats.”
For this season, the Cheshire Cats will be playing a series of tournaments and friendly matches but they are aiming to put teams in the full league competition in 2009.
Neil Waters, joint founder and media manager, commented: “The fixture list will be ground breaking in that the Cats will look both North and South and will therefore play matches in traditional rugby towns as well as attending festivals in the Midlands and the south of England.
“This strategy will reflect the tremendous current growth and development of Rugby League throughout the nation.”
Currently the team is in negations with Warrington Borough Council to find them a suitable home and playing fields.
The team will begin training and friendly matches this season at a Stretton base.
Anyone wishing to become involved in the club should contact Neil on 07788 775 012 or [email protected].
