Underground explosion in town centre

POLICE sealed off part of Palmyra Square, in Warrington town centre, and a number of buildings were evacuated after an explosion blew off a manhole cover.
Fire crews were called to the scene and carried out an investigation below ground. A spokesman said it was believed the blast was caused by an electrical fault.
The area was quickly made safe and the road re-opened.
No-one was hurt in the incident
