New legend in Town!

A NEW legend is hoping to appear at local soccer club Warrington Town this season – thanks to the talents of a 15-year-old schoolgirl.
Pupils at Boteler High School’s art department were set a project to design a club mascot to rival Warrington Wolves’ Wolfie and were told to create something which promoted a healthy sporty lifestyle, which could promote the club and the town.
The prize was a computer for the school, donated by IT specialists Pro-Networks, £100 for the winning pupil, plus a free season ticket for the winner and the two runners up.
The winner was Micheala Whitaker, aged 15, a Year 10 pupil who lives in Howley. Her stunning design featured a Leopard named The Legend, which the club is now looking to have made once they can secure a sponsor.
The prizes were presented by Club manager Paul Moore and striker Kev Towey (pictured right) at a special school assembly. Manager Paul said: “We were all stunned by Micheala’s design. The amount of detail was fantastic and we can’t wait to see the Legend running up and down the pitch cheering on the team. It will be inspirational. “We’ve already got someone lined up to wear the costume and I am sure The Legend will be more than a match for Wolfie – and we are hoping for some friendly rivalry with our friends from down the road at the Halliwell Jones.”
The Legend name is most appropriate as Warrington Town’s most famous son is England World Cup winner Roger Hunt, who was talent spotted playing on Cantilever Park for Stockton Heath, who later became Warrington Town.
Roger, who lives in Culcheth, was signed by Liverpool and became a legend winning the world cup.
Boteler has become a special “link school” with Warrington Town as a near neighbour, with all pupils being allowed free admission to games and parents or guardians gaining discounted admission.
Meanwhile Warrington Town are looking ahead to an exciting season in the Unibond Division One North, with a big celebrity charity match featuring Claire House Hospice All Stars V Warrington Town on Sunday August 10 k.o 1.30pm, followed by a challenge match between Warrington Reserves and a village team from Preston.
The event will be part of a family fun day, with a raffle to win a car, hog roast, fairground rides and much more.
The club currently has an early bird season ticket offer on until July 31st at just £100 for the season including all cup games.
