Drunk made racist threats

A DRUNKEN lout chased a taxi down Warrington’s Bridge Street to demand an apology from the driver for not picking him up.
David Patterson, 30, from Kingsway North, Warrington, flew into a rage, grabbed the driver by the throat and made racist comments.
Patterson pleaded guilty at Warrington Crown Court to racially aggravated threatening behaviour.
Judge Thomas Teague jailed him for eight weeks in prison saying: “This is yet another example of loutish behaviour in Warrington town centre by someone who has had far too much alcohol.”
The court heard Patterson stood in the middle of the road when the driver manoeuvred around him to pick up another fare.
He then ran after the car until it stopped, opening the door and grabbing the driver by his shirt to demand an apology.
He then made racists comments before walking away leaving the driver and two passengers in a state of shock.
The driver was treated by paramedics and it took him an hour to calm down and resume driving.
Simon Leong, defending, said Patterson was heavily intoxicated at the time and had shown remorse since the incident.
He wished to tell the court he was not a racist.
