Police uncover cannabis factory

POLICE in Warrington have seized cannabis plants worth an estimated £90,000 after uncovering a “cannabis factory” in the town.
Officers raided a house on Kildon Road in Grappenhall last Saturday morning (July 19) and found 300 cannabis plants, lamps, transformers and extractor fans.
Sergeant Graham Robinson and Police Community Support Officer Victoria Fox (pictured right) acted upon information they had received from the public.
Despite the discovery, no one has yet been arrested in connection with the drugs, but police say they are following up a number of potential leads.
Inspector Sarah Edgar, of Warrington South Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: “We will now do everything we can to trace those responsible. This case highlights the importance of community intelligence and we would urge residents to continue providing us with information so we can continue to tackle the issue of drugs. Every piece of information – no matter how small – is useful when we are piecing together a case.
“With the help and support of residents in the Warrington South area we can ensure positive action is taken against those who are contributing to drug problems.
“We are having a positive impact on tackling the issue and are getting the message across that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
It is believed the plants, when fully grown, would have been worth around the £90,000 mark, with the growing equipment alone being worth thousands of pounds.
Inspector Edgar added: “This has been a significant find and fortunately, with the help of the community, we have been able to put a stop to this.
“This is yet another example of the excellent work that officers in the Warrington South area are carrying out to tackle the issue of drugs.”
Anyone with any information about drug use in the area can contact Sergeant Robinson by calling the Warrington South Community Action Team on 0845 458 6372.
