Green awards for town

TWO of Warrington’s green space areas have been given a prestigious Green Pennant Award – the highest national accolade for sites managed by voluntary and community groups.
Walton Lea Nursery and Long Lane Garden Centre will receive their awards at a major ceremony in Liverpool next Thursday (July 24).
This will be the sixth year running the Walton Lea Centre has received a Green Pennant, while the Long Lane Nursery has been awarded theirs at the first time of asking.
Both sites come under the Walton Lea Project, which provides employment, training and life chances for nearly 50 adults with learning difficulties across Warrington.
Paul Todd, Green Flag Award scheme application manager, said: “The increasing number of Green Pennant Award winners highlight the important role they play in bringing people together and improving their quality of life. Congratulations to all those volunteers whose hard work and dedication has brought this award of excellence.”
