ALMOST 100 cannabis plants have been discovered growing on open land in Warrington.
Police officers dug up the plants after finding them on a patch of land at Woolston – close to the Manchester Ship Canal.
Police made the discovery acting on intelligence passed on from the local community.
A total of 75 plants were found, ranging from 1ft to 5ft in height. The plants are believed to have a street value of around £10,000.
PC Angela Gardiner said: “This has been a significant find and we want to thank members of the public who came forward with information. We will now do everything we can to trace those responsible.
“This shows the strong partnership that we have formed with the local community and we would urge residents to continue providing us with information.
“We hope this sends out a strong message that we will not tolerate this sort of behaviour. We will continue to pro-actively police this area – with the help of local residents and businesses.”
No one has been arrested in connection with the find. Police are appealing for anyone with any information to call 0845 458 0000.
Information can also be passed on anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
