Residents fight plan for new school

RESIDENTS and councillors have lodged objections to a multi-million £ plan to almost completely re-build a high school.
The scheme involves the demolition of Culcheth High School in Withington Avenue, Culcheth, Warrington and re-development of the site.
New buildings would be sited towards the northern edge of the site – further away from houses in Withington Avenue.
The idea, according to planners, is to minimise the impact on local residents.
But 25 have lodged objections – while Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council has objected to certain aspects of the plan.
In particularly they are concerned about the late night use of a floodlit synthetic multi-use sports pitch.
But other objections are based on the appearance of the new building, road safety issues, noise and disturbance arising from the use of indoor leisure facilities and visual impact on the nearby Green Belt boundary.
Planners say the impact on the Green Belt will be acceptable because of the amount of open space within the proposed school site.
They say it is proposed to prohibit use of the floodlit playing area after 9pm
Road safety is expected to improve and there will be less impact on residents of Withington Avenue, they say.
