ELEVEN local payphones will be removed from Warrington’s streets, if BT bosses have their way.
Residents are being asked for their views on the proposals and the borough council is co-ordinating the first stage of a consultation process.
Residents, ward councillors and parish councils are being asked for comments which must be sent to the Town Hall by Friday, July 18.
The public payphones proposed for closure are: Weaste Lane, Thelwall; Falcondale Road, Winwick; Orford Green, Warrington; Gainsborough Road, Warrington; Pilgrim Close, Warrington; Higher Lane, Lymm; Warrington Road, Penketh; Bruche Heath Gardens, Padgate; Mill Lane, Houghton Green; Longbarn Lane, Woolston; Manchester Road, Warrington.
Information about the proposals and response sheets are available online at www.warrington.gov.uk/payphones, or by writing to the Research Manager, Chief Executive’s Unit, Town Hall, Sankey Street, WA1 1UH or via email [email protected].
People are asked not to respond to BT directly.

Can we blame them – neasrly every person on the planet has at least 15 mobile phones now!
Many of these phones are in areas where there a lot of elderly people who may not have mobiles
You say “nearly” and that’s precisely the point. Surely they are a lifeline for some and see them disappear from our streets would be a very sad thing indeed. I often need to use a payphone if I have no credit on my mobile phone and only have small change with me.
