Shopkeepers launch traders' association

SHOPKEEPERS and other business people at Lymm have agreed to set up a village traders’ association.
More than 20 traders attended an inaugural meeting at the Spread Eagle hotel chaired by Philip Sexton, of Sexton’s Village Bakery.
Borough and parish councillor Bob Barr also attended to advise on local authority issues.
Topics discussed included the possibility of a one-way traffic system with on-street parking, Pay and Display parking and parking problems generally, policing, CCTV and general security and improvements to the village.
The Thursday market also came under discussion with some traders believing it contributed little to the village and others suggesting it be improved or moved “on street.”
The activities of the borough council’s parking wardens came under fire with several traders giving examples of wardens acting irresponsibly.
Increased parking provision was given a high priority, but the difficulties were also highlighted.
Aerial pictures of Lymm showed only three areas where additional parking could be provided – the May Queen Field, Lymm Rugby Club and Lymm Tennis Club.
The traders intend to hold regular meetings in future.
