WARRINGTON-based Weaver Vale MP Mike Hall donned “the wrong trousers” in a bid to raise awareness for a national charity.
Mr Hall – former Warrington South MP and one-time leader of the borough council – met up with the animated stars of popular comedy Wallace and Gromit to promote this year’s “Wrong Trousers Day” to raise money to improve the lives of children in hospitals and hospices.
The day, which was music themed, was open to organisations across the UK, with all monies raised being donated to Wallace and Gromit’s Children’s Foundation.
Children could submit footage of themselves “rocking out” in the wrong trousers, with a panel of experts deciding who would win the grand prize of tickets to the West End production of “We Will Rock You.”
Mr Hall said: “I was delighted to lend my support to Wallace and Gromit’s Children’s Foundation, whose initiatives in hospices and hospitals throughout the UK help some of Britain’s most poorly children.
“Wrong Trousers Day is a great opportunity to have some fun at the same time as helping to raise money for a really worthwhile charity.
“Now I have made myself look a little bit silly I hope that other people will also get involved.
“I am encouraging as many people as possible here in Weaver Vale to log on to the Wrong Trousers Day website – www.wrongtrousersday.org – and be part of the fun!”
Director of Wallace and Gromit’s Children’s Foundation, Nicola Masters, added: “I’m delighted that Mike Hall lent his support to this year’s Wrong Trousers Day. This year’s theme is ‘Wrong Trousers Rocks’. It is great that Mike Hall MP has shown he is game for a laugh and I hope it encourages other people locally to join in the fun and help us to raise over £1 million for good causes.”
Wrong Trousers Day originated in the Bristol area in 1997 but has been a national event since 2003.
