A NEW “cool” basketball club formed in Warrington is offering youngsters the chance to enjoy playing and keeping healthy.
BiG Storage Cheshire Jets have launched the youth basketball club at Birchwood Leisure and Tennis Complex.
Organisers say the game is gaining popularity both as a spectator and participating sport regularly seen on TV. They say fans see it as a “cool” sport and it is often used to promote healthy lifestyles in schools.
Coaching of the Birchwood club will be carried out by The Jets Professional coaching team.
There will be two sessions each week, Monday’s from 4:00pm to 5:30pm (seven to 12 year olds) and from 5:30pm to 7:00pm (13 to 18), Wednesday will be from 5:00pm to 6:00pm (seven to 12 year olds) and from 6:00 pm to 7:00pm (13 to 18). The cost is £3 per session.
Recently a new basketball club was launched at Great Sankey fronted by the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets. It is part of a plan to expand clubs throughout the area in partnership with Warrington Borough Council and Select Leisure.
Plans are for youngsters to represent their local area in competitions and leagues.
BiG Storage partner Andrew Donaldson said: “As a business operator in the area I have always felt a strong responsibility to give something back to the community that helps to support us – and feel by actively promoting our BiG Storage Cheshire Jets to integrate and promote healthy lifestyle values to the kids, that it is setting us on the road to achieving that.”
