BRITAIN’S Got Talent winner George Sampson from Warrington was given a hero’s welcome as he returned to Birchwood High School today.
During a special assembly at the school, George was greeted with huge cheers and applause from fellow students and staff.
Under the gaze of the school and the media, George described the experience as unbelievable and now has plans to pay off his mum’s mortgage and take his team to America with the £100,000 grand prize.
He received a special framed momento, along with a handy Birchwood Brolly from the school to mark his outstanding success.
It was back to earth with a bump first thing this morning however, as he had to complete his GCSE music exam!
For the future, George committed himself to returning to Warrington and to the school to see all his classmates.
He faces a busy couple of weeks first, as he left the school to travel to London to take part in the Britain’s Got Talent live tour and then has a crunch meeting with sharp tongued judge Simon Cowell, to discuss his next move.
George, who lives with mum Lesley, 39 and brother Luke, 19, faced stiff competition in the live final on Saturday night from acts such as dance act Cheeky Monkeys, martial arts duo Strike and classical singer Andrew Johnston, who came third, with Signature finishing runners up.
He has been a regular dancer in Warrington town centre will now get the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Show in December.
He captured the hearts of the nation showing true guts and determination after failing to make the live final last year.
With a show of real talent and determination, he came back bigger and stronger and won the final with a stunning dance routine to a modern day version of Gene Kelly’s Singing in the Rain.

I am pleased George won this contest because he is a Warrington lad and seems like a nice boy. But I was disappointed because I didn’t think the standard was very high and I am afraid George wasn’t even the best of a mediocre bunch. The boy soprano probably should have won it – but then he was probably too good. I suspect Britain’s best talent doesn’t go on this show because there are better and safer routes of making it to the top.
