LEARNERS from the Warrington Campus of the University of Chester are celebrating after being nominated at an awards ceremony which recognises older adults involved in arts, sports or learning.
Norman Sears, from Padgate, who attends the Learning and Enterprise Centre (LEC) at Warrington, scooped the Learning Award at this year’s Widening Active Participation for Older People (WAPOP) Awards, which are organised by Warrington Borough Council Arts and Sports Engagement Team.
Senior lecturer Connie Hancock said: “Norman, who is aged 85, has worked really hard. He attends the centre nearly every day, has completed a number of IT courses, and has shown great progress.”
Other nominees included those who attend the Writing Lives Group, which meets fortnightly to work on creative writing projects.
Connie added: “All of the nominees demonstrated that you are never too old to learn, and I would encourage anybody interested in gaining new skills or pursuing hobbies to not let age prevent them from doing so. The LEC is committed to widening access and we would be delighted to hear from any potential learners interested in gaining new skills.”
Anyone who would like more information about programmes offered at the LEC can call 01925 534 309.
